About me

My name is Zofia and I'm originally from Poland. Together with my husband, we have been living in Switzerland for  almost 14 years. Despite being busy raising our two children and managing the household, I've recently found more time to pursue my interests.

I have always loved baking. Thanks to my husband though, I discovered Bulgarian cuisine which I adore, and one may even say, he taught me how to cook. ❤️

In Bulgaria, the evening meal holds a special place in family life. It's a time when everyone gathers around the table, sharing stories of the day while savoring delicious salads and mouthwatering dishes. One tradition however that particularly captivated me is the concept of mezze.

Traditionally mezze refers to a series of small dishes enjoyed as an appetizer or snack in the Balkans, Western Asia, and North Africa. Throughout the Balkan Peninsula, it is often enjoyed with alcoholic drinks, and it can consist of a variety of different components.

In Bulgaria, mezze often includes Lukanka, which is a semi-dried, sometimes spicy salami with a flattened cylindrical shape and a brownish-red interior covered with a white fungus. It also features Fillet Elena, a pressed, dried raw meat product made from chilled or frozen pork tenderloin, and Sujuk, a dry, spicy, and fermented sausage mainly consisting of ground meat and animal fat.

Inspired by my husband's cousin, who brought his own homemade Fillet Elena to one memorable family barbecue, I've decided to try and make mezze of my own. From beginning to end, homemade mezze has become a passion project that I'm excited to share with others beyond our circle of friends and family.

Join me on this culinary journey and try traditional mezze, that brings cultures and people together one bite at a time.
